Residents say it was only a story of the bark getting worse
than the bite which had to be settled one way or the other.
Singh’s grouse with Bhuri, the dog, began two months
ago when the animal came under the wheels of his motorbike
and was injured.
Police ‘‘investigations’’ say the
dog did not “forget him” since. ‘‘Singh
used to say Bhuri was his sworn enemy,’’ says his
landlord. Every time he would pass by the house of 30-year-old
Ravi Bhandari, whose uncle owned the dog, ‘‘the
dog used to run after him and bark at him’’.
‘‘Yesterday morning, around 9 am, when it happened
again, Singh lost his cool,’’ says an investigating
official. Singh went back to his rented accommodation, brought
his licensed pistol and shot at Bhuri point-blank.
The sight so upset Bhandari who was nearby at his grocery
shop that he rushed out. ‘‘He objected to the act.
On this, Singh put the pistol on Bhandari’s forehead
and threatened to shoot him as well. Bhandari collapsed in
fear. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead
due to a heart attack,’’ the official adds.. The
dog was admitted to Moti Bagh Government Hospital.
Police claim they have a witness too — another colony
resident Rajesh Kumar. ‘‘Rajesh was also there
at the time of the incident and he was also threatened in a
similar fashion by the accused. Singh is missing along with
his entire family. The office of his company, Hi-Fi Tours and
Travels, and his house are locked. We are conducting raids
to nab him,’’ a senior officer says.
‘‘Besides arresting Singh, we need to recover
his pistol. It’s the most crucial evidence to prove he
shot Bhuri and threatened Bhandari with the same, leading to
his death,’’ say Preet Vihar police. Investigations
are to trace Singh and his family.
